Are our phones spying on us?
BBC’s Chris Bavin investigates whether our phones are spying on us, with commentary and advice from Ken Munro. There are numerous ways for advertising vendors to track us. Seemingly coincidental occurrences, that could make it appear that our phones are listening to us, are often explained by ad vendors correlating IP address, Wi-Fi PSK and many many other data sources. In this piece, the BBC focussed on GPS position and device location. It came as quite a surprise to the interviewer that simply correlating the location of two unconnected phones could explain adverts that appeared related to a conversation between two people. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000xhss/morning-live-series-3-01072021 Requires iPlayer login, starts at 09:03.
