Modern vessels are becoming increasingly complex and connected. Integrated bridges and automation systems can join tens of systems and fuse data from many untrusted sources. Is it possible for the crew to understand exactly how these systems work, where data comes from, and what can happen if the data is influenced by an attacker?
The systems are poorly documented, training only considers accidental contamination of data, and the systems have never been attacked under adversarial conditions. We’ll show some surprising issues we’ve found over the last few years with the hope of inspiring some new research.
