VSAT has resulted in affordable connectivity for vessels, driving efficiency and benefits for crews. However, connecting vessels has exposed years of technical debt: old unpatched systems, broken segregation between critical systems and a mash-up of refits.
Over the last few years we’ve been testing the cyber security of numerous ships and discovered the ability to take remote control of some, or cause incidents at others.
What can we learn from this to ensure that our existing fleets and those fresh out of the yard are suitably cyber secure?
